Sooooo tired

I am just sooo tired!  I think I've made a connection.

I rarely get a good night's sleep.  Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of about 6 hours a night on average.  Sometimes a little more - like 7 hours a night, but rarely.  I wake up somewhere between 5:30 am and 6:30 am.  On rare occasions I can sleep another hour or so, but not very often.  Upon waking, I'm still so groggy that I don't actually roll out of bed for another hour or two.  Then I walk about in a daze for another 30 minutes.  It's a real push to get to work or other earlier commitments.

About 12 years ago, I started out trying Tylenol PM to get to sleep.  Then switched to an antihistamine since I didn't need the pain reliever every night (and it's not as bad for you as repeated use of the Tylenol).  That wasn't doing the trick, so I got a scrip for Trazadone.  I kept increasing the dosage from 25 mg to 50mg to 100mg.  I could much more easily fall asleep but kept increasing it to be able to stay asleep longer.  I definitely do fall asleep much, much easier with the Trazadone.  I starting cutting back a couple of weeks ago and was down to the 25 mg again every night.  I had hoped to give it up altogether, but.....

Once we got to Utah last week, we realized that the two of us in a Queen size bed just wasn't working that great.  We are SO used to a king now.  Back in a queen, every time Jeff moves (even slightly) it shakes the bed and I wake up.  He is much closer while snoring and we both seem to be vying for space.  This is what happens when one of the spouses is 6'5" and has an arm span the width of a jumbo jet.

We finally decided I would go sleep on the double in the guest room.  We were definitely more comfortable but it didn't make my sleeping pattern any longer.  One thing I have been able to do several times this week is to take a nap where I actually fall asleep for a little bit.  Now mind you, it's only a maximum of perhaps 20-30 minutes, with a "waking" time of another 20-30 minutes.  So in all, with the "falling asleep" time, it's at least an hour of laying down.  I wonder if I skip the actual sleeping part of the "nap" if I will sleep better at night?  I'm not sure what we're going to do when we're here with guests, but we'll figure it out.  Besides, the double guest bed, we do have several futon mattresses, a self-inflating queen air mattress and a pack n play.  Though I don't think the pack n play will work for me ;)
