Back to life...back to reality

So, I just got back yesterday from helping to welcome in a beautiful new baby to the world and be with his family - and I realize all that didn't get done while I was gone. So, I started to compile "THE LIST" of what I was going to do, and in what order. "Whoa" is all I have to say.

This morning I woke up dreaming of my little grandbaby, Micah, and now that the initial shock of traveling, unpacking, making THE LIST, and getting started on it - I realized how much I miss the little nipper :(
The front of our house is falling off due to erosion on our hill. It's just the front porch and it's roof, but it has pulled the front of the house off a bit with it - I have cold air and a little light coming in from a crack in the corner of my bedroom (ceiling to floor) from the front of the house being pulled away from the side of the house. AND, the front walk up to the house has shifted an inch or two to the west and dropped downhill/sloping another couple of inches. Oh yeah, and there are unexplainable holes in the yard that never backfill when a hose is inserted and turned on. Hmmm....
Our contractor constructed a temporary solution for the porch problem yesterday by lifting the roof of the porch back up until we can do it right. You can see how much drop there was in these pix. Notice the new chunks of wood between the posts and the roof.

See the little piece of unpainted wood between the top of the post and the beam that supports the roof of the porch? In reality, it's about two inches long. This is the easternmost end of the porch.

Here is the westernmost end of the porch. This new chunk of wood is THREE inches! Yowzers.

We are hoping that Jordan and Becca will come to visit in the summer and if so, we'll hire Jordan to work on helping to get the problem fixed, along with a lot of new cement work and landscaping around the property, as well as a big retaining wall to prevent the erosion from happening again. Oh yeah, I guess Micah will have to come along, too....isn't THAT a pitty ;)
