This is a long one....

So, since my last post, much has happened but have not been able to bring myself to write about it until today.  It's Sunday but I've stayed home from church.

THE FLU BUG BITES
I've had the flu going on 12 days now.  It started with a sore throat and then the next day I could hardly sit in a chair without falling over so I went home from work after only an hour.  I've had congestion, coughing, fever, aches and a lot of weakness.
That was last Wednesday.  I stayed home on Thursday and Friday as well.  I had a presentation at a Relief Society meeting a week ago, Thursday.  I had spent so much time preparing and didn't want to disappoint the gal who had asked me to do it and leave her high and dry.  Jeff and I prayed all day that I would be able to do it and I think between the prayers and adrenaline, I mustered up the energy.  The presentation went well.  I left immediately afterwards and went home and back into bed.
I felt miserable and rested for the next three days.  I called in sick again on Monday since I had been having a fever.  This job is a long-term, temporary position (until Feb 16) at the elementary school.  I really have enjoyed doing it.  It's only three hours a day so I decided to give it a go again on Tuesday since I hadn't have a fever in 24 hours.  I felt miserable but if I call in sick one more day, they'll give the entire position (until Feb 16) to someone else.  Since it's only three hours a day I went Tuesday through Friday, but go to bed as soon as I get home.  I just stayed on the couch yesterday ALL DAY except for just picking up around the house and getting a load of laundry done.
Jeff came down with this on Thursday!  He has still had to go to work but coming home as early as he can and just going to bed.  He's home from church today all day with me as well.  He did feel up to going to the store yesterday and picking up a few groceries.  Our house is totally filthy and so he got the dishes caught up and I vacuumed and did a load of laundry.  That about did us in so we're going to have to live with grimy bathrooms and a dusty house for a little while still.
I've tried essential oils, DayQuil, Robitussin, Colostrum, mega doses of Vitamin C and D, Zinc, multi-vitamins, steam, chicken soup, extra fruits, heat packs on my chest, nasal flushing, etc etc etc and still nasal congestion and coughing.  My chest hurts so bad.  Last night I though I might even be having something resembling a heart attack but it went away.

HERBALIFE VS WEIGHT WATCHERS
So, I tried the Herbalife Diet.  Two meal-replacement shakes a day with a "sensible dinner" along with their supplements and I only lost about a pound in about three weeks.  I gave up especially after I had been sick for a few days.  Jenna has been wanting to do a diet and we've talked about several different plans and methods.  She's even tried a few for a day or two.  So last Tuesday we decided to do Weight Watchers Online together.  I've lost almost three pounds in 6 days without even exercising.  W.W. is just the best plan for me.  I lost 28 pounds last year on it.  I feel like I'm eating real food, getting to eat what I like and losing weight.  It's just a lot of organization, planning, shopping, chopping - time consuming.   I know week 2 will definitely not be as drastic of a weight loss, especially being sick.  I've heard that this flu can last up to three weeks.  I am not going to even think about exercising for at least another week but in the meantime, I can follow the W.W. food points plan and still expect SOME results.
Jenna came down sick on Thursday so I'm sure she's not been feeling up to planning her meals and following the W.W. plan.  Hopefully she'll start up again when she's feeling better.

BRIDAL SHOWER
I volunteered to help with Siena Bennions' bridal shower and said I'd get the invitations out.  It's taken any kind of energy that I can muster up to get them made and the envelopes addressed.  I dropped them at the post office on my way home from work on Thursday.  So glad that's done! That's pretty much the only productive thing I've been able to do besides get to work for three hours a day.

SARATOGA
So what do you do when you're stuck in bed?  Spend hours upon hours on Pinterest!  I finally have looked through enough (thousands, I'm sure) photos to have decided on a color palette for the Saratoga house.  THEN, we get an email from the builder that says the completion date is delayed yet again!  "The city lost the application for a gas meter" and they can't hang sheetrock in this weather without the furnace running which runs on gas.  Our new completion date is March 15, but we can't get there then because of Jeff's work schedule!  With hours of back and forth between our realtor and their realtor, we ask for a closing date of March 26.  It better be done by then, is all I have to say about it!

JEFF GETS SUCKED IN TO DOWNTON ABBEY!
I started watching that tv show at the beginning of the season and Jeff didn't like it so we watched something else during that time.  Since I've been sick I decided to watch it on ON DEMAND whether he liked it or not.  Problem is, is that only Season three is available for free - how can you jump in to a complicated drama at season three?  I watched it anyway.  Since I'm still sick and must stay down, I bought the upgraded service on Comcast for an additional $5 a month and watched all of Season One (way cheaper than buying movies on ON DEMAND or renting a million movies from Red Box or even subscribing to Netflix).  Jeff even came into the room at episode 3 (of Season One) and stayed until we had watched all of the rest of Season one together.  I stayed up and watched the first couple of episodes of Season Two and first thing this morning he asked if I would catch him up on what's going on!  LOL!  We are going to watch the rest of Season Two together later today and I'll bet he'll want to get caught up on Season Three as well!

STARTLING NEWS
One of my kids gave me some very startling news last Tuesday.  It will have far reaching effects.  It has weighed heavy on my mind.  It happened to come on the same day that I started feeling sick.  I really hope I get healthy again soon and have the physical, emotional and spiritual energy so I can help them with the challenges ahead.  Life comes with one challenge after another.  Sometimes the challenges are layered.  It seems I've realized that a lot of what happens is out of my control.  I just need to learn from them, help others and trust and have faith in the Lord and His master plan.

  1. Oh, I hope you all feel better very soon. I'm sure the startling news has added some stress, which will make it harder for your body to fight off the sickness. For the flu, we took oscillococcinum. We started taking it as soon as we had symptoms, but I also knew it was influenza B because our friend had tested positive for it a few days after we had been at the park with them. We combined that with elderberry syrup and it seemed to really help. None of us were sick for more than 5 days! Hang in there.

  2. I actually started feeling better today. I worked for almost four hours today and even had enough energy to come home and clean the bathroom! Woo hoo! I think I'm turning the corner! Yes, I'm convinced stress has everything to do with adding to overall well=being.
I didn't realize it was the flu until about the third day, which was too late to really lessen it or make it better. I'll have to get some elderberry syrup in the house.
