It's taking shape!

We are at the point now where all of the planning and demolition is shifting now to something a little more like what we envisioned. But in the meantime, we have had those little "surprises" that come with any project of this magnitude.


For instance, there are several places now, especially in the back yard, that water is just appearing out of nowhere. Drainage has always been factored in, but now, we are certain that all of the extra materials and trenches are completely justified.



I don't really need much more commentary for you to get an idea of how it is all going - just look at the pics! The first one (above) is of the side yard in the back. They dug a hole ranging from 4-8 feet deep, and now the retaining wall is going in.


This next pic is of the front yard. From this vantage point, it only looks like a bunch of lumber, or, better yet, a giant Jenga game that has all tumbled down - but it's really the forms for the stairs and walkway up to the front door from the street.

The next one, below, is of our crew! We hired out the excavation and cement work, but Jordan is doing the rest of it - well, with the assistance of his wife, Becca, and occasion appearances of me and Jensen! I am amazed at the weight of the blocks for the retaining wall - up to 80 pounds each! Unfortunately, Becca might get a new nickname - and "Beefy Becca" will be well suited for her - she can pick up and carry those blocks across the yard and then up on the four foot wall!

There is no member of this family too young to be expected to be on the job site. Even little Micah is included in on the action!
